The Solar Roofs Programme "Ndelle“

The electrification-project of Ndelle is based on the export initiative of Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena) - the German Energy Agency. One of the tasks of dena is to promote German technologies in foreign countries. Dena is especially aiming at promoting renewable energies by its Solar Roofs Programme. In this context dena is acting as the partner of private companies and the Federal Ministry of Economics, promotes information and creates publicity in order to transfer the know-how of progressive technologies to the local partners in the target countries. This aim is also achieved by further training of the local partners.

The project „Ndelle“ is also enabled by the following partners: On one side by the Government Agency for Rural Electrification of Senegal (ASER) which is working in close cooperation with the Ministry of Energy Senegal, on the other side by the German Development Cooperation (GTZ) which is providing technical expertise by its regional programme PERACOD and at the same time organises logistics, grid construction and takes care of the social environment of the project Ndelle.

Those three actors have formed a consortium together with SOLAR23 and its local partner company énergieR in order to implement, establish and operate a decentral island system consisting of several solar generators.

In the result a 8,4KWp solar system was installed in Ndelle which has the function of demonstrating the newest technical possibilities of rural electrification with sun-energy. The solar system was implemented following a modular concept and consists of three separate solar generators. This modular concept has the advantage that the solar system can be enlarged in the future if the energy demand of the village grows.
