Ground-breaking ceremony

The press conference for the start of the pilot project “Ndelle” took place on the premises of the company énergieR in Dakar on the 19 May 2008. The representatives of the project partners ASER, GTZ, EnergieR and SOLAR23 were able to welcome more than 25 journalists from the print media as well as from radio and television and were able to report about “Ndelle” for the first time. The echo of the media and the society in the following days exceeded the expectations.

On the same day the ground-breaking ceremony took place in the village which is 180 km away from Dakar. The first operations like grounding and the erection of the frames were established by the engineering team of solar23, Manel Naceur and Zied Mabrouk, as well as by the engineering team of énergieR in the first days. In the following days the solar modules were installed on the village square, on the school and the community centre at more 45 degrees in the shade. The finalization of the operations was the installation of the inverters and the batteries in the engineering room, which had been built before.

In the second stage of the installation phase the “public” grid was installed by the GTZ in the village “Ndelle” to enable the electric power supply of the individual houses.
