Solar Home Systems (SHS) refer to a stand-alone system, suitable for residential applications, such as home appliances, lighting, computers, and water pumps. Typically, solar home systems have less power, of around 100 kWp.

A benefit of solar  home systems is that they are generally designed and sized to supply DC and/or AC electrical appliances, instead of just one current. These systems consist of PV modules connected to a PV charge controller, stand-alone inverter, and battery system. Generated DC power is stored in the battery and converted to AC power for supplying to AC loads. Net losses are not a problem from these solutions.
